How often should I fertilise my lawn?
You should fertilise your lawn at least 4 times a year. This will ensure your lawn has a constant supply of essential nutrients that are important for overall lawn health. Generally, if you feed your lawn before each turn of the season with a slow release balanced lawn fertiliser such as the Lawn Solutions Premium Fertiliser it will feed your lawn through to the next application.
Do all lawns need the same amount of fertiliser?
The short answer is No. With the great advancements in lawn breeding, there are now lawns, Sir Grange and Tif Tuf Hybrid Bermuda which have very low nutrient requirements. These lawns require less than 1/3 of the amount of fertiliser compared to other lawns. Buffalo, Couch, Kikuyu and Fescue lawns will all need fertilising 4 time a year minimum to keep a healthy appearance.
How do I know if my lawn needs fertilising?
Depending on your lawn type, the are several ways your lawn can tell you it’s hungry. 1. Your lawn loses its rich green colour and goes to a lighter green- yellow 2. Some lawns such as Buffalo’s will send up course seed pods. 3. The lawn loses its vigour and the lawn starts to thin out.

Daytime temperatures
Newly laid lawns during the summer months must be watered during the heat of the day. Contrary to the belief that watering during the day can burn the turf, you must water when the evaporation rate s greatest, to ensure the leaf doesn’t dry out. New turf cannot draw moisture from the soil till the roots have established and therefore relies on water being drawn through the leaves to keep it alive and healthy.
Wind
Windy days increase the evaporation rate and care must be taken with newly laid turf to ensure it doesn’t dry out. Once your lawn is established, it is beneficial to water when there is little wind as you will achieve more even coverage if using an irrigation system.
Sun and Shade
This is an important factor when watering your lawn. Areas that receive morning sun will not dry out as fast as areas that receive middy to afternoon sun. if your established lawn is showing stress from lack of water, it will be in the areas that experience no shade and mostly the hotter afternoon sunlight. This may mean you need to water these areas more often than the shady areas.
